Many people insist they wash new clothes before they put them on. However, few people really know why they are quite right to do so.
Expert says it"s not good to wear new clothes without washing them first. As well as the dust and bacteria accumulated during the production process, there are also toxic chemicals covering new clothes. Feng Xiaping from Huizhou administration of quality supervision explains:
"You may find two kinds of toxic chemicals including formaldehyde and resolvable toxic aromatic amine dyes."
Those wrinkle free clothes mostly include formaldehyde, which usually gives the collar shape. While resolvable toxic aromatic amine dyes can make the clothes more brightly-colored, and maintains the color for a longer time.
"Such toxic chemicals are made up of aromatic amine dyes which may cause cancer."
We must be cautious of harmful chemicals when we wear new clothes. But what should we do, exactly, before we put them on? Feng Xiaping tells us more:
"I suggest have the new clothes immersed in warm water with detergent for about 30 to 60 minutes. After you wash them, you are advised to hang them under the sunshine. Then the formaldehyde will be wiped out."
However, other toxic chemicals - resolvable toxic aromatic amine dyes can not be removed by water, and consumers can not possibly know if the clothes contain such toxic chemicals. They can only find out through a special technique.
The country has prohibited clothes manufacturers from using resolvable toxic aromatic amine dyes for clothes production.
Expert suggest people choose those brand clothes at big shops, and ask for a quality report from the seller.
