The government ban on airlines keeping passengers waiting longer than 3 hours on the tarmac will apply to everyone. The new policy goes into effect next week. Five airlines have asked Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood for temporary exemptions. All have been turned down.
Authorities continue to try to control an oil spill caused by the oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. The Deepwater Horizon burned for nearly two days before sinking yesterday. While the fire is out, officials say as much as 336,000 gallons of crude oil a day could be rising from the sea floor.
Swiss authorities now control the fate of film director Roman Polanski. Yesterday, a California appeals court rejected Polanski’s appeal to have his case reviewed by a special council or be sentenced in absentia. Swiss Justice Ministers have been waiting for the ruling before deciding to return Polanski to the United States.
It was a big night for the Big 12 in the NFL draft. Five of the first 6 picks including the top 4 were from the Big 12 Conference. Sam Bradford was chosen first by the St. Louis Rams. Former Oklahoma teammates Gerald McCoy and Trent Williams were selected No.3 and 4.
