Now a British company has become the first in the world to bring the sparkle from the red carpet to everyone"s doorstep. Rent Your Rocks rents diamond jewelry from as little as 50 pounds a week. Claire Robson rented a ruby and diamond necklace, earrings and bracelet for her wedding. She"s back for more for the festive season.
"When you see there, magazines full of celebrities with their glamour and glitz, it"s nice to be able to replicate that you can buy high street, look-alike clothes , so it"s nice to be able to wear the similar types of diamonds that they would wear"
Based at the family business in Norwich , Rent Your Rocks is the brain child of Sophie Croydon , set up just a year ago, it"s been a runaway success and has attracted wide support.
"It started on a piece of paper, with me handing in a subject title for a deadline at school essentially. And here we are , so yeah, I get home every night and think "what on earth happens today?" and look what"s gonna happen tomorrow, it"s just, it"s brilliant, I can"t ask for anything more."
The idea means it"s as easy to rent a piece of jewelry like this as it is, to say, hire a car, or book into a hotel. You just pay a fee and a holding deposit. The idea is taking off so much that even celebrities are beginning to use the service.
Susan Boyle was first to catch on. She rented the sapphire necklace and earrings for her performance on the X-factor; contestants Stacy Solomon"s worn one of their bracelets and called on their services for the final. Tanya is Sophie "s sister and buys much of their stock.
"How wonderful to have, I mean, to get this sort of celebrity connection, which is brilliant , because, I mean, we all love our celebrities, we all want to look like our celebrities. So It"s for us to then, to go and to dress celebrities for their big nights as well. And to see their excitement, wearing our rocks is brilliant."
With plans to expand, they are hoping for a successful Christmas and a sparkling new year.
