on university tuition system in china

directions: it is reported that many universities in china have begun to charge students for tuition. should university students in china pay their own tuition ? state two opposite opinions and illustrate them in detail. write an essay of about 200 words within 40 minutes.

tuition system has become one of the hottest topics in china since it was put into effect. reports on this topic are published in a variety of newspapers and magazines. people differ greatly in their opinions on it.

some people think that there is no university in the world which is open to students without tuition. as far as china is concerned, it is a developing country with the largest population in the world. the government is unable to allocate enough funds to pay for various teaching facilities and many different kinds of expenses. one of the ways to relieve the problem is for students to pay tuition. the money raised in this way can be used to improve the conditions for running schools.

others, however, are opposed to the tuition system. they argue that the living standard of the chinese people, especially of those in the poor rural areas, is still low, compared with that in the western world. the university tuition will certainly add to the already heavy burden of the parents, who live on their salaries or wages. moreover, tuition may become an obstacle to the development of china’s higher education. this is because it hinders some talented people from entering the university just on account of their poverty. competition is a common phenomenon(现象) in our social life. we compete when we play games and when we try to do better than others in our study. there is constant(不变的) competition for academic(大学的) degrees, jobs, customers, money and so forth. in a sense(感觉), competition is one of the motive(推动的.) force to the development of society.

in the natural world, the weak will be replaced by the strong and the fittest can live; therefore, the only way to survive(活下来) is to be competitive. growing in a competitive environment is important for a child because future adult life is difficult. finding a good job, for eample, is an etremely competitive activity. today, most people obtain knowledge through various ways and a large number of people get good education. there are also many people who have higher degrees in their special fields. the quality of people is rapidly increasing. competition is more violent(激烈的) that what we thought it should be. the potentially(潜在地) successful job applicant(申请人) has to be prepared in a stronger position by gaining more qualification(资格) and eperience. in the sports contests(竞争), the strongest will come out as winners. they become our heroes and they are glorified(赞美). in the business world, to beat your competitors, you must be better than the other employees. otherwise you will be defeated(击败).

in fact, the only way our world reward(报答) people is to give laurels(殊荣) to the winners, not to the losers(失败者). what is more, by attempting to compete at different activities, we learn to win and lose, gain eperience and know our strengths(实力) and weaknesses. competition prepares us for the tough(坚韧的) things in life.

to go ahead, to acquire possession(所有物), we should be competitive. to us, industriousness(勤奋) and ambition(抱负) are positive(确实的) values.

whether in games, in study or in business alike, the aim is to win the game, the degree, the trophy(战利品), and the contract(合同). learning to be competitive is clearly the best preparation for life.

Where do we come from? How did the universe begin?why is the universe the way it is? How will it end?

Sll my life, i have been fascinated by the big questions that face us, and have tried to find scientific answers to them. If, like me, you have looked at the stars, and tried to make sense of what you see, you too have started to wonder what makes the universe eist. The questions are clear, and deceptively simple. But the answers have always seemed well beyond our reach. until now.

The ideas which had grown over two thousand years of observation have had to be radically revised. In less than a hundred years, we have found a new way to think of ourselves. From sitting at the center of the universe, we now find ourselves orbiting an average-sized sun, which is just one of millions of stars in our own milky way galay. And our galay itself is just one of billions of galaies, in a universe that is infinite and epanding. But this is far from the end of a long history of inquiry.Huge questions remain to be answered, before we can hope to have a complete picture of the universe we live in.

I want you to share my ecitement at the discoveries, past and present, which have revolutionized the way we think. From the big bang to black holes, from dark matter to a possible big crunch, our image of the universe today is full of strange sounding ideas, and remarkable truths. The story of how we arrived at this picture is the story of learning to understand what we see.

As shown in the picture, a young woman is working at home. In a society where internet is widely used, the phenomenon is hardly surprising. By allowing employees to work at home, employers can widen the base from which they recruit and boost the chances of

capitalising on rich human capital. For instance, parents with childcare responsibilities and those with disabilities prefer to work at home.

Distance between their work place and their place of residence has never ceased to be a problem. Home working enables working people to perform their jobs at ease, and thus gives employers more options in human resource use.

Apart from those benefits, home working might have its drawbacks. Working at home deprives the employees of face to face communication with others, which is disadvantageous in social life. In addition, once any problem in work arises, it"s impossible to discuss it with others immediately. In that case, home working can be very difficult and frustrating.

Therefore, I have to say that telecommuting job, like a coin, has two sides. It can provide convenience and satisfaction, but it may bring problems and trouble as well. Hence, home working has a long way to go to become popular.

archaeology is a source of history, not just a bumble auiliary discipline. archaeological data are historical documents in their own right, not mere illustrations to written tets, just as much as any other historian, an archaeologist studies and tries to reconstitute the process that has created the human world in which we live - and us ourselves in so far as we are each creatures of our age and social environment. archaeological data are all changes in the material world resulting from human action or, more succinctly, the fossilized results of human behavior. the sum total of these constitutes what may be called the archaeological record. this record ehibits certain peculiarities and deficiencies the consequences of which produce a rather superficial contrast between archaeological history and the more familiar kind based upon written records.

not all human behavior fossilizes. the words i utter and you hear as vibrations in the air are certainly human changes in the material world and may be of great historical significance. yet they leave no sort of trace in the archaeological records unless they are captured by a dictaphone or written down by a clerk. the movement of troops on the battlefield may change the course of history, but this is equally ephemeral from the archaeologists standpoint. what is perhaps worse, most organic materials are perishable. everything made of wood, hide, wool, linen, grass, hair, and similar materials will decay and vanish in dust in a few years or centuries, save under very eceptional conditions. in a relatively brief period the archaeological record is reduce to mere scraps of stone, bone, glass, metal, and earthenware. still modern archaeology, by applying appropriate techniques and comparative methods, aided by a few lucky finds from peat-bogs, deserts, and frozen soils, is able to fill up a good deal of the gap.
