女士们，先生们，朋友们：

Ambassadors,
Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends,

我非常感谢各位光临中国驻美使馆，与我们一起纪念中国人民抗日战争胜利暨世界反法西斯战争胜利65周年。

Welcome to the Chinese Embassy on this special occasion.

65年前的今天，1945年9月2日，在东京湾的“密苏里号”战舰上，包括中国在内的世界反法西斯同盟庄严举行了接受日本投降的签字仪式,宣告了世界反法西斯战争的最终胜利。

Sixty-five years ago today, on September 2, 1945, Japan formally signed the Instruments of Surrender aboard the battleship Missouri, which meant the final victory of the World Anti-fascist War.

世界反法西斯战争是人类历史上规模空前的战争，战火遍及亚洲、欧洲、非洲、大洋洲，有80多个国家和地区、约20亿人口卷入其中。在中国，这场战争持续了14年时间，给中国人民造成了巨大的灾难和损失。据不完全统计，中国死伤人数3500万，仅南京大屠杀就死亡30万人。

It was a war of unprecedented scale in the history of mankind. The flames of war swept through Asia, Europe, Africa and Oceania, involving more than 80 countries and around two billion people. In China, the War lasted 14 years, causing tremendous losses and untold suffering to the Chinese people. According to incomplete statistics, China suffered a casualty of 35 million. 300 thousand Chinese people were killed in the Rape of Nanjing alone.

但中国人民毅然奋起，英勇抵抗。中国战场长期牵制和抗击了日本军国主义的主要兵力，在战略上策应和支持了盟国作战，配合了欧洲战场和太平洋战场的战略行动，制约和打乱了日本法西斯和德意法西斯战略配合的企图。中国人民为最终战胜世界法西斯反动势力作出了不可磨灭的历史贡献并为此付出了巨大的民族牺牲。

But the courageous Chinese people waged heroic resistance. The Chinese People"s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression dealt a heavy blow to the main forces of Japanese militarism in the China Theater, provided strategic support to battles of the Allied nations, assisted the strategic operations in the Europe and Pacific theaters, and foiled the attempt of Japanese, German and Italian Fascists to coordinate their strategic operations. The Chinese people endured tremendous national sacrifice and made indelible historic contributions to the eventual defeat of the Fascist forces across the world.

中国人民抗日战争的伟大胜利，是中华民族全体同胞团结奋斗的结果，也是中国人民同世界反法西斯同盟国人民并肩战斗的结果。中国人民反抗日本法西斯侵略的战争得到了包括美国人民在内的其他国家人民的大力支持。中美两国军民并肩作战，结下了深厚的友谊，留下了许多感人的故事。

The victory of the Chinese People"s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was not only a result of unity of Chinese people of all nationalities, it was also a result of concerted efforts of the Chinese people and the people of the Allied nations. The Chinese people received strong support from the people of other countries, the United States, in particular. As we have seen from the film, there are many touching stories about the Chinese and American people, both military and civilian, fighting shoulder to shoulder and forging profound friendship.

1942年5月到1945年的9月，美国派了年轻的飞行员组成“飞虎队”，飞越著名的“驼峰”航线，支持中国的反法西斯战争。那是世界上著名的艰难航线，美国几年间大约损失了600多架飞机，美中两国飞行员牺牲了1500多人。因为山谷里的飞机碎片在阳光下闪闪发光，人们称之为“铝谷”。

From May 1942 to September 1945, a group of young US pilots formed the famous "Flying Tigers" and flew the "Hump Route" to support China during the war. The "Hump Route" was renowned for its danger. In those years, more than 600 US planes crashed, claiming the lives of more than 1,500 Chinese and American pilots. That route came to be known also as the "Aluminum Trail" because of the wreckage of crashed planes glittering in the sunlight.

中国人民永远不会忘记这段历史。今晚，让我们深感荣幸的是，“飞虎队”队长陈纳德将军的夫人陈香梅女士和女儿陈美丽女士就在现场。贝赫前参议员也出席了今天的招待会，他的父亲也曾驻扎云南昆明，为“飞虎队”提供地面支持。

The Chinese people will never forget that. And tonight, we are honored to have with us the wife and daughter of General Chennault, Madam Anna Chennault and Cynthia Chennault. We are also delighted to have with us Senator Birch Bayh whose father was based in Kunming and provided ground support to the "Flying Tigers".

中美两国军民在反法西斯战争中的合作，还包括营救杜利特尔轰炸机队。中国人民冒着生命危险，成功救助了美国陆军航空队中校杜利特尔率领的64名机组人员，并把他们安全送回美国。目前，只有7名机组人员依然健在，包括一号轰炸机副驾驶理查德·科尔上校。他现居住在德州。我们很高兴他的儿子科尔先生专程前来出席今晚的招待会。

The documentary just now mentioned the rescue of Doolittle Raiders. Today, there are only seven of them still alive, including Colonel Richard E. Cole, the copilot of aircraft No. 1. He is living in Texas. We are very pleased that his son Richard Cole is with us here tonight. Welcome and please give our best regards to your father and his colleagues.

65年前，抗击法西斯侵略的共同使命使中美两个伟大国家走到一起。今天，作为世界上最大的发展中国家和最大的发达国家， 中美两国拥有广泛的共同利益，有更多的理由进行合作。无论是在维护亚太地区及世界的和平与稳定、推动地区和全球经济发展，还是在应对反恐、核不扩散、气候变化、能源和环境保护等挑战方面，中美两国都拥有良好的合作基础。

65 years ago, China and the United States were brought together by the common endeavor to defeat fascist invasion. Today, as the biggest developing country and the biggest developed country, China and the United States have even more reasons to cooperate with each other. We have extensive common interests in maintaining peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific and the world at large, in promoting regional and global economic growth, and in addressing such challenges as anti-terrorism, nuclear non-proliferation, climate change, energy and environment protection.

胡锦涛主席和奥巴马总统就建设21世纪积极合作全面的中美关系达成了重要共识。一个稳定和发展的中美关系，不仅符合两国和两国人民的根本利益，也是对世界和平与发展的贡献。 我们坚信，只要双方不断增进战略互信，加强各级别对话和沟通，深化和拓展各领域交流与合作，妥善处理分歧和敏感问题，中美关系就一定能够克服各种困难，开辟更加广阔的发展前景。

President Hu Jintao and President Obama have agreed to build a positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-US relationship for the 21st century. A stable and growing bilateral relationship not only serves the fundamental interest of our two countries and peoples, but also contributes to the promotion of world peace and development. We are convinced that as long as our two sides work to enhance strategic mutual trust, increase dialogue and communications, expand exchanges and cooperation in all fields and properly address disputes and sensitive issues, we will surely be able to surmount difficulties and open up broader prospects for our relationship.

战争的创痛，让人们倍感和平的可贵。纪念战争的胜利，正是为了更好地维护和平，避免战争。

The trauma of war makes peace all the more precious. The purpose of our remembering the victory of the anti-fascist war is precisely to work for the maintenance of peace and the prevention of war.

中国是热爱和平的国家，中国人民是热爱和平的人民。中国坚定不移地走和平发展道路。让我们共同努力，为维护世界和平、促进共同发展作出更大贡献。

China is a peace-loving nation and the Chinese people are peace-loving people. China sticks to the path of peaceful development. The Chinese people are committed to working together with other countries to make greater contribution to world peace and common development.
